Dental Exams & Cleanings
A comprehensive dental exam is a thorough evaluation of your mouth to discover conditions and issues that need to be treated. An exam involves the following at regular dental check-ups:
- Oral Cancer Screening – Your lymph nodes, neck, lips, tongue, throat and gums are checked for indicators of oral cancer.
- Periodontal Exam – Your gums and jaw bone are reviewed for signs of gum inflammation or gum disease.
- Tooth Exam – Each tooth in your mouth is scrutinized for signs of decay, discoloration, cracks and breakage. Also, existing dental work – such as crowns and fillings – are inspected for failure.
- X-rays – X-rays are used to detect decay, tumors, and bone loss that the visual exams cannot reveal.
